Carta for PE?

Anyone use Carta for cap table management, waterfalls, employee grants, fund accounting and/or showing employees what their equity could be worth? 5 years ago I would've said it's overkill but with increasingly complex buy and builds, deeper employee incentive pools, and greater use of pref, starting to think it might be worthwhile.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, Carta has gained traction in private equity for cap table management, waterfalls, employee grants, and fund accounting. While traditionally more common in venture capital, its robust features are increasingly appealing for PE firms managing complex buy-and-build strategies, larger employee incentive pools, and preferred equity structures. Carta's ability to provide transparency to employees about the potential value of their equity is also a significant advantage, especially in competitive talent markets.

If your firm is dealing with intricate equity structures or scaling operations, Carta could indeed be a worthwhile investment. However, for smaller or less complex setups, it might still be overkill.
