Connected ??

So I was at a coffee shop and overheard two people talking about deals. I looked back and they looked to be around my age so I assumed they were analyst at a bank like me or maybe analyst for a PE firm nearby based on the conversation. When I walked by them to order another drink I interrupted there conversation to ask what they did and where they were an analyst at..... Turns out the guy I asked that responded was not an analyst he was a partner at a PE firm. Felt very awkward after the " well actually I am a partner at ___ response."

He asked how to contact me and sent me a text though. Is this good or bad? not sure if he did that because he actually wanted to connect or just because he wanted me to go away.

I assumed such, texted him back 2 sentences one apologizing for the intrusion on his conversation and one saying id love to connect. Worst case he just ignores me and life goes on.

He wanted you to go away... would not cold approach people even if they look your age, it's beyond awkward.

Nah man idk maybe that’s modern thinking you hear all these stories of people hustling their way in back in the day. If it’s some sharp kid who’s fundamentally nice I’d be cool with it

disagree, I've been cold approached by people before and it's actually incredibly refreshing and makes me admire and respect that person all the more. Think I've had it up to here with the amount of well-off, entitled rich kids entering these careers and hoping some day the story of the off-the-beaten path hustlers becomes the norm again.
