Current Big 4 - Looking for help assessing job offers
I'm a current senior in TAS at a Big 4. Based in EU and on track to manager this year. Looking to move out of technical accounting work into finance role so have been networking internally and externally. So far, I have three offers.
1. (Internal) Deals strategy - was asked to join at senior-level with salary match. Team seems nice, they do a lot of CDD and growth strategy consulting with the consulting arm. Good to build out my strategic skillset. Small team, culture seems ok but hours are terrible.
2. (Internal) Deals Operations - Do a lot of operational DD and restructuring, PMI, carve-out, value creation work. Good to build out my project mgmt skillset. Offer is to join at manager level. Large team, culture seems great and hours are reasonable.
3. (External) PE - Global real estate PE - BB spinoff so in its early growth stages with strong leadership on top. Although it would be pretty cool to work on the deals, this role is more middle office. It's a new role as it's a small team (pretty much everyone else comes from BB). I would join as analyst and would be doing a lot of different things such as fund reporting, investor relations, marketing, reviewing investment valuation models, cash flow and liquidity projections. Team seems nice, entrepreneurial culture, hours are higher than deals operations but also flexible. Maybe good to know they turned me down initially saying I might be too senior for the role (and I agree to an extent) but after interviewing more junior candidates, they offered me this position. Also would like to know your thoughts on whether it's a good idea to move to analyst role to get my foot in the door and move away from accounting.
The salary is more or less the same for all three. Always wanted to work at IB but somehow just didn't happen for me plus where I am now located, IB market is very small. In the future I am looking to move into a strategy / corporate dev role in industry. Also good to know, I would like to relocate to US / UK in the future although don't see this being an issue because (1) and (2) are with Big 4 and the PE has a good global presence. Would appreciate your thoughts / insights as I assess these offers. Thank you!
If you want to do corp strategy, number 1 seems like a no brainer. Do it for a year or two and then look for a seat in corp dev/strategy from there. You could very easily get to that seat internally if you're interested in staying within the firm (corp-wide strategy rather than deal strategy within a specific arm)
Thank you. Really makes sense what you say if I want to go into strategy. Do you think this would change if I want to go into corporate development? Just trying to understand which of the three options would give me better exit opps for both.
