Unless your friends are current associates (who can maybe make intros), I'd trust the process and go through the headhunters. "Coffee chats" are set up through the headhunters too, and happen before on cycle kicks off. That's about as close to networking as I got. I had all the headhunters reach out, but that’s maybe because of my BB (JPM / GS / MS). Defer to others if different for MMB / other BB’s

What the guy above me said.

No, you don’t network for PE roles. Headhunters are the gatekeepers and will be the ones determining which interviews you end up at. I was speaking to some associates who were doing interviews at this fund and they said they had no idea who was being sent to them for interviews, kids just kept showing up.

Only “networking” is if you get invited to coffee chats/breakfasts with the PE fund, which started like 1-2 days before OCR kicked off this year. I got invites for coffee chats on Thursday morning/Friday but recruiting kicked off Wednesday night and I had accepted an offer within 24 hours, so obviously never attended the networking events/would imagine they probably just got cancelled.

Just for reference I interviewed at multiple MFs and got invited to a lot of MF/UMM/MM interviews. Never spoke with anyone at any of the firms before.
