Do sponsored MBA students get signing bonus?

I work for a 5bn AUM PE and am fortunate enough to be offered an MBA sponsorship. But one question I have is whether people sponsored for MBA will still receive signing bonus from the same employer? Thanks.

Why would they give you a signing bonus? They've already got you signed on. Like the poster before me said, they're already giving you a lot.

Nice work.

I really have no basis for this view but it didn't seem to stop any of the above posters from speculating...

... you may be able to negotiate some sort of relocation stipend (relocation from bschool not relocation to bschool).

A couple considerations here: 1. They're sponsoring you because they would rather you come back vs. them having to recruit someone new which besides being a pain in the ass also comes with risk/uncertainty 2. They're actually saving money by sponsoring you vs. hiring a new MBA recruit. They'd have to pay a headhunter to coordinate the recruiting process and besides the indirect cost of time and money spent recruiting, they'd pay about one-third of the hires all-in first year comp (at a fund of your size I'd estimated $300-400k) to the head hunter... so that's at least $100k saved by having you return 3. Lets assume they somehow found someone at HBS without a headhunter (which is fairly unlikely) and somehow avoided the headhunter cost... well they still need to pay this candidate a sign-on/reloc

So thats the logic I follow in concluding its not completely off the reservation to ask for it. Obviously you need to tactfully maneuver as not to seem piggish, as someone mentioned above.

My assumption is that #1 and #2 justify the cost of paying for your b-school and #3 remains.

Are you signing a contract to return before you leave? I would think so. Thats probably where you'd want the relocation negotiated... or if you're getting your post-mba comp package/offer letter when graduating... maybe thats when you do it.

I'd also check with friends at some of the shops known to sponsor associates, at least that way you know what market is. You're not going to get answers from any of those folk on WSO.
