Do type of projects matter when transitioning from consulting to PE?
When you transition from consulting to PE, do firms prioritize candidates who did many due diligence projects for PE firms, or do they prioritize candidates who worked in a certain industry, or something else?
I think there’s obviously a preference for DD work
outside of that growth strategy and performance improvement are usually good experiences
Agree, CDD is best (cuz gives you a slight preview into a deal process and key questions), but it’s only so relevant (given such a specific workstream in the grand scheme of a deal).
Realistically, I’d hire any strong performer in consulting (average to above-average reviews) with genuine PE interest and willingness to grind (only explicitly stating as some consultants get a bad wrap for over-emphasizing WLB which just isn’t compatible with PE associate programs).
I would try to do at least 3 due diligences, of course the more the better!
