From MM PE to IB BB - Possible?

Hey Monkeys,

I recently started as an Analyst in a regional MM PE shop straight out of undergrad. Work is nice but I am ultimately dreaming of going to a larger fund down the line. My question is: would it be possible to recruit for IB at a BB next year? Have not seen many do this its more the opposite...

I don't see a reason why you cannot recruit up market, without going to a larger bank.

However, I think there are a few factors that might effect this. Such as:

- Industry specific fund (recruiting for or from)

- Assuming you are not at a Fundless sponsor

- Assuming you do primarily control buyouts

- Assuming you actually control parts of the deal process

But don't UMM funds tend to strictly recruit from IB/Consulting? Haven´t seen that many profiles end up in UMM funds without going the IB route. And agree with all of your points!
