Funny Question: Can You Read CIMs Buzzed?
Sitting on the tarmac now after throwing back a couple whiskey gingers at the AA lounge. Have a CIM I should to read, but not a ton of time pressure. I've been internally debating, "can you read a CIM buzzed (4 deep), and remember enough to make reading it worthwhile"? Curious what other anonymous brothers in arms have to say on this incredibly important topic.
I recently did just that and just wrote notes throughout that I could refer to when sober. Felt like it was a worthwhile activity on something more qualitative like CIM reading / question forming.
Maybe, but this reeks of bush league. Come on man. Have a drink or two if you want but four? This isn't Sterling Cooper.
Rough but fair
Nah man, don't let this guy burst your bubble. I'm all for debauchery. Enjoy!
Eh, I can do 2 drinks but any more than that and Im just wasting my time reading thru a CIM
Depends if you know what to focus on. 20 minutes is enough to know what they do, their basic value proposition, the financial story, and 1-2 potential red flags. Jot down notes to yourself
0 chance if you read it cover to cover like a novel
A wise investor once said: to make the best investment decision, decide twice. Once sober, and once drunk. If you’d do the deal both times, it’s a good investment.
Reminds me of all assignments I completed during b school
I tried to read some research report in the airport lounge last Sunday after a couple beers and decided it was futile after a few minutes.
I've tried before, wasn't really productive. Wouldn't recommend tbh, just use the time to keep the buzz going and read it some other time.
Lot of amateurs in this thread, if you can't grind through a CIM after a couple beverages you should probably be looking for an FP&A exit opp
I thought being buzzed was a prerequisite for this kind of thing?
How do you literally not read a CIM without being buzzed? Same goes for credit agreements and other horrible documents. Once you know what to look for, and have enough reps that you're not gonna screw something up, doing the monotonous reading while buzzed is great
