Healthcare Exit Opps in 2024?

Incoming SA at a top but not tippy top HC group (like GS/MS/Laz/EVR but not CVP/JPM) and beginning to think more seriously about exits given how early oncycle gets. Over the last year, it seems lots of big PE firms have been pulling out of healthcare (like Apax disbanding their HC team). Slightly worried about the opportunities available as I heard being in sectors like FIG and HC can somewhat silo you as well.

How difficult is it to land roles in other sectors like consumer, tech or industrials PE at top MFs/UMMs? Is there still a future in HC PE? Curious to hear from those in the industry right now, thanks.

HC is like 20% of the economy, PE is going to keep investing in the sector but the focus is changing. HC PE used to be mostly provider rollups which have gotten a lot of bad press (some deserved, some not) and regulatory pressure (FTC sued a Welsh/Berkshire portco for raising prices). High interest rates the last few year have also made that consolidation strategy a lot harder. Firms are shifting to healthcare IT and pharma services and some firms haven't adapted as well. Pitchbook does a pretty good job covering the shift if you're interested. Either way you're not pigeon holed into HC for on-cycle

No PE firms are hiring IB analysts for their industry expertise. The reputation of your group and your interview performance matter much more in landing what you want.
