H&F On-Cycle

do they take solely GS TMT/FIG, MS M&A, PJT RSSG, or do I have a chance from a GS HC, IND / MS GPUG, M&C type group? Looked at the ASOs on their site but not sure if this is random since I did see an associate from MS transpo.

Would love it if anyone from H&F could chime in!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's clear that while certain groups like GS TMT/FIG, MS M&A, and PJT RSSG are highly regarded and often have a more direct pipeline to top-tier private equity firms like H&F, it's not exclusively limited to candidates from these groups. The presence of an associate from MS Transportation on H&F's site indicates that while the path might be more straightforward from the aforementioned groups, it's certainly possible to secure a position at a top PE firm from other groups as well.

It's important to note that while being in a top group can give you an edge, especially during the on-cycle recruiting process, it's not the only factor. Your individual performance, networking skills, and how you manage the recruiting process can also play significant roles. The fact that headhunters are aware of the rigorous nature of groups like GS HC, IND, or MS GPUG, M&C means that standout candidates from these groups can also catch the attention of top PE firms.

In essence, while your chances might be statistically higher from certain groups, exceptional candidates from other groups are not automatically excluded. It's about leveraging your experience, networking effectively, and demonstrating your capabilities throughout the recruiting process.
