How often do you get full bonus?

Hey everyone,

I recently received an offer to join a PE shop, and the offer letter says that the bonus is "up to 100% of base."

Is the expectation that that bonus is the target bonus, and that 99% of the time, you should hit it? Or is it more like "If you're a top 5% Associate, you'll get full bonus, otherwise it's 50%."

Thanks!

I’ve always been in the LMM, so your mileage may vary, but in my experience anything less than 100% is a bad sign. 100% of target is the median, great associates might get a little more, underperformers are more likely to get fired than get a low payout, but when they do get a low payout it’s a sign that they probably won’t be around for long
