yeah that should be fine/normal. Reference calls are typically right before/after they extend an offer. Background check prior to joining would be just a check the box, did you really graduate, have a criminal record, were you employed at these companies, etc. It might flag that you left your job the month prior but it's not unexpected that you'll take a month or two off
A reasonable break is fine (2-3 months), but more than that is problematic (i.e., don't quit like a year early). Your future employer assumes that you're going to fully complete your program and arrive accordingly prepared from IB.
