How to back out of process?

How have you dealt with processes where you realised already during the process that it isn’t the right role? Specifically how did you manage with the HH not to burn any bridges?

Currently in a process where I made it already into final rounds (process was very short, mostly just a case study). Most likely wouldn’t take the offer so thinking how to back out best. Wait until the end? Call it off now? Problem I see is how to justify if not all chats were done yet, as they could clarify any concerns (this is what the HH would argue)?

Call out now. I’ve done it before even at VP Level (my title is old). Kinda hit or miss how HH will respond. The real bougie pedigree driven ones (ratio lol) will care. They’re usually ones that no one can please anyways. But better to pull out now than turn down offer which is worse.
