How to be promoted to Partner?

How to be promoted to Partner role (with material % of carry) from Investment Manager/Director/Principal position in a small early stage fund? Few ideas that came to my mind: 1) check whether you are on a partner-track 2) make money for LP/GP - control whole lifecycle of investment (sourcing, dd, structuring, add value, raising/exit) - take a board seat (be the smartest guy in a room re sector/team/product) - add value to company in advance - make relations = be a friend - focus on late stage deals (faster liquidity) - be a brand = visible for LP/GP/startups

Any suggestions?
