How to send an interim email between first email + coffee chat and asking for an interview

Hi everyone, when I was a senior in college (last year) I spent the time networking with people at a few specific private equity firms at which I'd be interested in working. Many of them were nice enough to get coffee with me or talk on the phone about what they do.

Come January, when it's off to the races with on-cycle recruitment, I want to reach out to them to ask if I can interview. Some of the firms are big, and some are small -- I am either am not with their headhunters, or they don't use headhunters at all.

Since it's been a while since I've talked with them, I want to reach out and say hi for two reasons: 1) to remind them I'm still alive and kicking, and 2) to ask more about their jobs and see if I'd actually like to work there. They all have a common sector focus, and I have been working in consulting doing deals in that sector, so I'd like to just shoot the shit about common(ish) work.

When I do email, what should I say for an interim update type email? Not specific wording, but to the point of: Hi, thanks again for chatting with me last spring/summer, since then I've started working doing [sector] deals at [consulting firm], would you chat with me again now that I can actually talk shop?

Thanks for the advice as always.
