Huron Capital

Restarting this chain as a place people can talk about their experiences at Huron Capital Partners (Detroit based PE fund).

Not sure what happened to the previous chain (although I can guess). There was an extensive (very negative) discussion of this firm that had been on this site for many years and is now mysteriously vanished. I know for a fact that the senior management of Huron was aware of the chain and was struggling to recruit because of it. They even went to the length of trying to get prior employees to post positive things to counterbalance the negativity. I'd imagine they eventually resorted to threatening this site to get the thread taken down (although this is honestly pure speculation, I can't think of any alternative explanation to what happened).

I'm restarting this post because while I get no pleasure or personal benefit out of doing so, I think this is an extremely important resource for prospective employees to use when evaluating a job opportunity (as well as anyone else that is considering doing business with the firm).

While my personal knowledge of Huron is pretty dated, I know it to be a toxic culture and not a place I would recommend anyone join. There are a couple old time senior partners that are completely inept and awful to work for. While they have tried to shift to a new guard of leadership more recently I believe the old leaders are still hoarding all the carry (of which there was none for a long time due to poor performance). While I believe some recent exits have helped improve performance, they have not been able to raise a new fund since 2017 and have no dry powder to deploy currently. Feels like a sinking ship  where you'll be overworked on portfolio support projects and likely underpaid but I hope some people with more recent experience will chime in and provide their insights.

Oh yeah, 100%. There has been an insane amount of turnover over the years and its definitely not just been at the VP or lower ranks. There have been multiple partners and even a senior partner that has left. While much of this turnover has been voluntary, they have also fired a ton of people (often times as a scapegoat for poor fund performance).

The main thing that keeps people at the firm is that there is really no alternative in Detroit. So if you really want to live in Detriot and work in PE, you're kinda stuck.
