IB/PE - GPA for stem major
I'm a sophomore at MIT going into recruiting for junior summer SA at BB/EB/PE. I'm studying computer science and my GPA is kinda bad -- 3.5. Will I run into any issues with recruiting? Have relevant internships and clubs. Will I be fine getting past gpa screens?
You will be fine — I had a 3.3 (Genetics major, Ivy), was late to recruitment (halfway through junior fall), and still got a top MM internship. MIT is an even harder school and computer science is an even harder major. As long as you have good work experience you should be fine.
Bump
isnt MIT GPA out of 5.0?
Converted to 4.0 scale bc the 5.0 thing confuses people
Just network and you'll be fine. Sure, a recruiting screen based on GPA will rule you out. But, a cold email to anyone with a clue will likely elicit a response, assuming you have a decent resume beyond academics.
You should be alright. I had a 4.6 GPA sophomore spring at MIT and got around 2/3 of all first round interviews I asked for. MIT is hard as balls (definitely hardest to get good grades among all “target” schools) and everyone knows that, so there’s more leeway in terms of GPA
Math major who had between a 3.5 & 3.6 GPA and now at a BB (non-target)
what school?
Mid-tier public school (Maryland/Penn State/UConn)
Hey, would you mind if I PM'd you? In a similar situation and would greatly appreciate any advice! I think you're Anonymous, so I can't message you directly.
Sure, feel free to
