Informational Interview with the Head of PE
Hi guys,
I have applied to a summer analyst program and the head of that PE is my friend's father. I told him that I have applied to this job and we set up a zoom session for 30 minutes tmrw. What should I expect? I have no idea what to say cause he is so senior.
Think of 5-10 good questions... ideally you would have done this before the day before but just be honest with yourself and list em out.
If it’s a formal program, ask what kind of people they look to hire/what they’re looking for from interns. If he’s high up in the PE world and you aspire to have his job or day, consider this a chance to form a longer term mentorship relationship. Don’t be short sighted in just trying to ask about what you need to do to get that interview/internship, rather think about this as a chance to demonstrate that you’re smart and thoughtful since they’ll remember that over someone who could rattle off some facts about their portfolio companies.
At the end of the day, you’re in an extremely privileged spot seeing as your friend’s dad is the head of the PE group or whatever, so don’t be shy about extracting the most value that you can out of this.
