Interviewing for MFPE without a Return Offer

Hi, as the title states I am interviewing for a top MFPE fund shop. I didn't get a return offer at the last place I interned at due to low headcount and have people that can vouch for me from analyst to director. The reason was partly due to cultural fit in my opinion but this wasn't explicitly mentioned on the feedback call, only just the low headcount and I may be projecting.

I believe for the PE shop it would be an expectation that you converted their internship to work at the PE shop. I am just curious how to handle the question of did you convert and why not if the only explicit ground I have to stand on is something like low headcount while others still converted. Unsure if I should just cap as I don't think it would be checked realistically. I am also confident in my abilities to land the role if this wasn't a question as I have prepared extremely thoroughly for this role.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.
