Is eMBA of any use for relocation and placement to PE/VC?

Hello guys

I am a PE senior associate in Russia with an extensive experience in deal analysis and execution. Assuming the general sentiment it is possible that the business in Russia would be tough, so I am considering moving to Europe / USA prefferably to PE, Growth Equity or VC role. As far as I know it's up to impossible to move directly. If i do MBA I would have to start all over with an associate position in my middle thirties - 1-2 years till admision (i will be a VP by that time with c. 10 years of experience) and another 2 years to graduate - which is pretty tough. So from that point of view i want to gather additional evidence of wether EMBA would be a better chance. I realize that my experience will be seriously discounted, but hope to keep senior associate position.

What do you think / what does your experience tell you - is there a chance of landing appropriate position after top-10 US EMBA?

In the US I think being from Russia would make most top 10 MBAs and certainly PE firms steer well clear of you. Unfortunate reality at the moment - people are just not going to be friendly to your background.

Also, the visa process is very tough right now even for Canadians or people from Asia, I think it'd be next to impossible for you to get a US visa right now.

I think you are better off getting a job in EMEA similar to what you are doing now, go wherever you can stay for a decent amount of time visa-wise, try to land MM or LMM PE (etc) if you can. Just not likely to get into a top tier MBA right now, and even if you do I don't think the firms you want will be interested.

That aside, EMBA is not useful, most use it to move up internally. UChicago part-time places well enough if you absolutely can't take the time off, but most people are flying in from their job based elsewhere in the US. It's a huge commitment
