Is PE recruiting hard?

How difficult is it to learning the PE modelling tests for oncycle PE recruiting as a first-year analyst? Incoming FT at a top NYC EB and wondering if this is something I should learn on the side before hitting the desk this summer.

Agree with the above posters, but the answer to your question is yes. You should absolutely learn how to do it from blank excel to 3-statement model with LBO within 2 hours (though some tests are templated). The recruiting calendar can be unpredictable but each year it typically happens very early into the analyst stint, so it'll be valuable for you to start practicing early.
