Jump to PE from PWM
I'm a first year analyst for PWM at a BB that wants to find a way to PE. Graduated from a tier 2 b school with a 3.6. What should I focus on to make try to make this jump/What's the best way to get there? Financial education certificates + networking? Go to grad school with a specific focus?
Any opinions and advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Literally none of the above. Get into investment banking, in your case hopefully through an internal lateral. And then PE can be discussed. No way you’re going straight from PWM to PE, there’s no transferable skills you have
maybe investor relations
And what city are you based in? That could help change things too
based in NYC
From PWM you can either do IR or Product Specialist (for a particular fund inside the firm).
If you want to be on the investment team, can’t get in from PWM. Get into IB or MBB.
I’ve seen many lateral (within their bank) from PWM into banking at BB’s. Takes lots of networking, time and effort but it can be done. Once you are in IB, you can set sights on PE.
