Lateral Asc Interviews
Current Asc that is getting inbound for some lateral asc roles that look appealing.
What do processes look like for these? Should I prep using my old asc recruiting stuff? Of course, I plan to know my deals well, but anything else to keep in mind?
Thanks in advance!
VP here, who did some lateral interviewing. I would expect it to be largely the same to your prior recruiting but would be expect a higher bar when it comes to talking about your deals, your experience, and any case study / test given you've been doing the job already. If you have been modeling / working on deals, should not be anything too surprising. I would also expect to comment on the general state of the market / economy and it's impact on PE (e.g., interest rates, limited exits, fundraising constraints, global political conflict / tariffs, etc.)
As a lateral associate you are generally seen more of an investment that could be for a longer term (depending on the firm) versus first a first year associate, so would show your ability to think and not just execute.
Thank you, this is super helpful - really appreciate the response. How would you say VP interviewing differed?
