Long-term advice for development

As the finance profession (typical goal of IB to PE route) continues to become more competitive, I find that alot of WSO monkeys spend lots of concern about being the top tier analyst, getting into a BB IB firm, making it to the buy-side, etc. But as I continue to network throughout the finance/business world, I continue to unearth great professions & individuals that bring tremendously enlightening experiences towards having a successful career + adding value to the world. It's always nice to get wiser, mature perspectives as I feel that I'm unnecessarily racing towards a career (IB, PE, Corp Strat, Dev, Etc) that will be at minimum 10-20 years long.

I wanted to start this thread for any advise from those in the industry whether PE background, strategy, or entrepreneur background to shed further wisdom on how some of us monkeys in our early twenties can have a more mature long-term outlook on how to develop. Insights on skills, industries of the future, and more is very much welcomed. Would love if this could really dispel some of the do or die mentality to achieving success that this forum ( more so IB forum) has, along with enlightening readers on understanding the beauty of the real value that financiers bring to the world.
