Marketing in PE

Has anyone worked in or closely with the marketing department at an alternative investment management firm (e.g., Blackstone, KKR, Apollo, Ares, etc.)? I’m trying to understand more about the work-life balance (WLB), compensation, core functions, career progression, and overall prestige of marketing roles at these types of firms.

For context, I currently work in the marketing department of a successful, later-stage fintech startup and have been contacted by recruiters for opportunities at alternative asset management firms. The potential increase in total compensation is significant (around 1.5x), but I imagine the workload would also increase (I currently work 40-45 hours per week). I’m currently a senior associate and the roles are all for associate level.

I have a few specific questions:

• How respected is marketing at these firms compared to fintech, where it’s more integral to the business?
• Does the prestige of the firm translate to marketing roles, or is it mainly tied to front-office roles?
• Are there clear paths for career progression within marketing at these firms, or is it more of a support function?
• How sustainable is the work-life balance, particularly compared to the more flexible fintech environment?
• Is there any crossover between private equity/private credit marketing roles and fintech marketing in terms of skill sets or responsibilities?

Any insights would be appreciated!
