MD Called Me A F&$cking Idiot

Hello all,

I have been at my new role for about a year now as a senior associate, have 4 years of work experience.

Yesterday I was traveling with a partner and VP. After dinner, where we had all had a couple drinks each, I called a Lyft to the hotel of the city we were staying in. Unfortunately I called it to the wrong hotel since there were 2 Hyatt’s in downtown.

When the MD went to check in and realized the mistake, he turned to me and said you took us to the wrong hotel you fucking idiot. He calmed down quickly and we got to the right hotel.

I shrugged it off and the whole thing resulted in probably a 15 minute delay max, but it struck me as the most unprofessional thing I’ve experienced.

Talked to the VP afterwards and he’s confirmed that he’s had difficulty with the MD in the past in terms of emotional outbursts, but nothing to that extent. What would the rest of you do / handle it?

Why dis the guy for sharing/asking for advice? It's a messed-up/embarrassing situation, he wants to hear if others have had a similar experience. It's not like he had to pay money to create the account. Pretty weird that you would think it's weird.

Should have said: “Who’s more foolish, the fool? Or the fool or follows him?”

In all seriousness, fuck him. Sounds like a miserable and arrogant prick who’s life hasn’t turned out like he quite hoped it would and is trying to take out on the rest of the world.

If there’s something to be gained by continuing to play the game, then keep at it. If he’s a middling journeyman MD and you don’t gain much by currying his favor, then squash him like a bug.

If your ego is such that it won’t allow you to let a transgression like that go unchecked, then fuck him. Lay low, wait for the perfect moment, and then leap out of the bushes jam an upside down fully bloomed pine cone up his ass just as he least expects it.

“Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.”

If you’re of the life is too short mindset, then move on.

You're a senior associate and haven't seen this behavior before? Lucky...

If it's nothing personal, I'd brush it off and make a mental note to never treat your juniors like that in the future. He definitely isn't losing sleep over it and if he isn't then you shouldn't either. Unfortunately nothing you can do here really, but it's a good learning experience to toughen up.

This guy definitely isn't in the right here and that's deplorable behavior. But you can choose how much to let it affect you

this. he def could have been just bro'ing with you, especially after a few drinks. If this was the case I would say that its a positive sign given that guys generally dont "bro" with guys they don't like. all depends on tone though.

I dunno labor market is super tight so you can either ignore it or secure another job and publicly cuss him out before you leave in the office so everyone else hears it.
