Media & Entertainment PE
Hey all,
Does anyone know the top PE funds that focus on media/entertainment - and maybe tech by extension?
Would anyone have insight on those industry specific funds in the MF/UMM space?
Thanks!

Providence (media telecom)
Any other big ones besides Providence? I’m interested in the Media/Telecom space, too.
I am a few years out from deciding, but both PE and growth equity are appealing to me.
Spire capital, catalyst
More MM but Shamrock Capital Advisors in Los Angeles (formerly Disney family office)
Don't really have any info but Zelnick Media sounds like it would be badass
Chernin group THL Silverlake (WME IMG)
What do you know about Chernin?
Providence is easily the most well-respected of the media / telecom PE funds
Vista, Thoma Bravo, Silver Lake, H&F are a couple that come to mind
Bump - curious how the media PE landscape has evolved
TPG IDMC (Capital or Growth)
Came from a media banking background so perhaps can talk about some of the funds we went out to on processes.
Media/Entertainment Focused Firms: Atwater Capital, ZMC, Shamrock, Firebird Music Holdings, Redbird Capital, Yucaipa, Arctos Sports Partners
MF/UMM (That play in media): KKR, TPG, Apollo, Carlyle, Blackstone, Silverlake, Providence, New Mountain Capital, THL, Crestview, GTCR, Sixth Street, Ares
Any info on ZMC from your interactions?
Not a whole lot of info to give unfortunately. Seem like smart guys but we often didn't reach out depending on transaction size (e.g., $400mm+ deals). Way back when I worked on a smaller deal, we invited Andrew Vogel to a fireside chat with management and he seemed sharp, but they didn't end up bidding. Maybe others might know better.
THL plays in media? Maybe in the past but not sure if they do that anymore
Probably true - just seen them around the hoop on things but not actually buying
Thoughts on Shamrock / RedBird?
Both seem like smart guys and know at least one of them was hiring as of recently so you should reach out if you are interested. Both play in a similar space with a similar breadth of entertainment/sports assets, but Shamrock tends to be a bit more on the entertainment side (think Hollywood deals - they have an outright content fund to invest in IP and media rights) and Redbird is a bit more on the sports side (Fenway Sports, AC Milan, etc.). But obviously they invest all across sports and media. Otherwise - in terms of culture - no clue. But hope that's helpful.
I just went through them and the Media/Entertainment focused ones are very appealing, would you be familiar with similar players in Europe?
Thanks in advance

Dyal, silver lake, ares, shamrock, sixth street (really strong in this space).
Chernin group, Temasek, Zelnick, Shamrock, lots of the massive PE funds also have teams that are involved in this.
