Meeting headhunter: how to advertise interests in multiple fields?
Hi everyone,
I'm having coffee with a headhunter soon (a meet and greet - not looking to transfer at present) and wanted some advice. I've heard people say that you need to have a very good idea of what sort of fund you want to work at before these meetings. However, I'm facing two problems with this.
First, the market I'm in is small, so I don't see how you could only have one type of fund in mind and stand a good chance at getting a job.
Secondly, I'm interested in a wide range of funds (including hedge funds, actually). From my part, I don't think this is indecision as I have a very good idea of what sort of work (including technical skills) and culture I'm looking for, as well as how I can integrate my strengths and weaknesses. However, there is a spectrum of buyside roles that fit that, and saying I want to a particular strategy wouldn't honestly reflect my current opinion in where I want my career to go.
Does anyone have any experience with conveying interest in a range of different funds when talking to headhunters?
