Based on the most helpful WSO content, perks at US megafunds like Blackstone (BX), KKR, Carlyle, and TPG are generally aligned with their reputation for prestige and high compensation. However, the perks can vary slightly by firm and role. Here are some insights:
Compensation:
Megafunds typically offer top-tier compensation packages, including high base salaries and significant bonuses. For example, first-year associates at megafunds can expect compensation in the range of $200K-$300K, with potential increases as they progress.
Carry (Carried Interest):
While carry is more common at the senior levels, some megafunds may offer junior employees limited carry opportunities. This is less frequent compared to smaller funds, where juniors might see carry earlier.
Prestige and Exit Opportunities:
Working at a megafund provides unparalleled prestige and opens doors to future opportunities in finance, such as senior roles in private equity, hedge funds, or even corporate leadership.
Professional Growth:
Megafunds are known for their structured training programs, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to high-profile deals, which contribute to significant professional development.
Lifestyle Perks:
While the work hours are intense, some megafunds provide perks like gym memberships, wellness programs, and access to exclusive events. However, these perks are often overshadowed by the demanding nature of the job.
Networking:
The alumni network of megafunds is incredibly strong, offering long-term career benefits and connections across the industry.
While the perks are attractive, it's important to note that the work culture at megafunds is often described as intense, with long hours and high expectations. The trade-off for these perks is a demanding work environment that requires significant commitment.
I’m in PE at one of the places you listed. Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice, but sometimes feel they’re continually scaled back to the point that it’s probably nothing crazy for PE, though definitely better than banking. Being a public company comes with more scrutiny towards expenses I think
Worked at a private MF and perks were great. No budget for lunch/dinner, black cars for travel, first class all flights, 5 star hotels (st regis, peninsula, four seasons, etc.), great insurance. I guessed it all balanced out as you worked like crazy. Can’t imagine doing this job if firm is penny pinching analysts and associates.
You’d be surprised how grindy some MM / other firms are and how cheap (in my opinion there are a number of firms where if you want to get promoted its just as much work/ if not more than MF). People are willing to accept what they can get nowadays for competitive roles (I even mean top performing, high DPI/MOIC funds that do this) as you don’t really have room to ask about perks and food stipends upfront nor would you deny an offer for that

KKR is wonderful
What’s KKR SF like. Know hindson yards is awesome but SF / MP are nice too? Know the SF one is a nice floor etc but imagine perks aren’t as nice.
Anyone know perks at BX?
