MM PE or BB IB analyst to recruit for mbb?

I have offers for a mm pe with 5b aum and generally around 1b fund size in singapore or a bb ib also in singapore. I have been told that at the 2 year mark for the mm pe I will most likely be promoted to associate.

My long term goal is to break into the us through a hsw mba, I have a gc. I do not want to stay in finance long term, my long term goal is to work in vc or in startups. My plan would be to do 2 years in ib/pe -> mba -> mbb -> faang pm -> startup -> vc. Which offer should I choose?

My worry with mm pe is that the brand won't be strong enough to recruit for good mba programs.

I think would do the BB if you don’t plan to be in PE long term, but honestly both are probably fine. Why didn’t you recruit for MBB directly? That will also get you to your goal of startups/VC/b school.

If you want to go to b school, at least do your two years so you have some tenure in a role and don’t seem like a job hopper.

This is needlessly complex and congaluted mate. It sounds like you are just trying to plot out all the most prestigious things, but what do you actually WANT to do? What do you like? What kind of work do you like ?

A goal of breaking into the US makes sense, and if you need an mba to ge there, that also makes sense (and by the way some of the m7 might get you there too).

If you want to do startup work, for example, just do that post PE analyst, or maybe it actually makes most sense to just do MBA after your analyst program

Hi thanks for the advice, prestige is not an important factor for me, I am only choosing between mm pe and bb ib because i struck out on t2 consulting and mbb offers, consulting is something I would enjoy more.

Since I only have these two options left, I'm trying to base my decision on what would get me into a good mba program in the us so i can rerecruit for consulting. I want to do consulting and then I want to use that experience to go work in a startup in the us. What would you recommend I choose to help for that goal?

For both options I would do the mba after 2 years as an analyst. Would pe work translate well into startups as i know that isn't a typical exit op?

I don’t think you get it man— there’s a lot more similarities between banking and consulting than you think . If you want to go startups, you’re already well positioned from either IB or PE to go. Making some more power points doesn’t really help you much (and I say this as someone who is really thankful for my MBB experience).

The one part where you’re on point is you do probably need the MBA to get to the US, and probably for making the startup transition (even though in general startups don’t value the MBA, I think being international makes this more necessary). For that, and for startups writ large, I think PE is better , but again, aiming for MBB being where you are and with what you want is pretty foolish to put it bluntly

Currently working in one of the MBBs in the region, curious why you would rather work at MBB than the MM PE or BB IB. Do they pay less than MBB? I'm considering your opposite and moving from MBB -> MM/MF PE in the region.

And to answer your question, I know a lot of ex-BB IB who moved to MBB in Singapore, so I would consider doing that before doing an MBA to finally move to the US.

If getting into a top business school is the goal, more than the brand of where you work, the people you work with and the ability to tell interesting stories about that work is what matters.  Not knowing the specific firms I would guess that is higher likelihood at the PE shop than at an investment bank.  These schools look at investment banks as a big commodity, particularly the ones in Asia.
