MM PE Recruiting

I'm currently recruiting for MM PE Summer Analyst positions for 2026. I'm a few processes at the moment, and I wanted to know if anyone had any idea of the timeline of these - I'm assuming they're quite longer compared to the typical IB SA recruiting process due to smaller teams and a bigger emphasis on fit.

I recently had a screening call with HR last week with my top firm, and at the end of the call was told that I wouldn't have to reach out to more investment professionals because I'll be meeting them through the process. It's been exactly a week now and I haven't heard back - followed up in the morning and nothing yet.

Not going to continuously follow up and come off as pushy; does anyone have any insights of what it's like?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, MM PE recruiting timelines can indeed be longer and more variable compared to IB SA recruiting. This is primarily due to the smaller team sizes and the greater emphasis on cultural fit and alignment with the firm's values. Here are some key insights:

  1. Timeline Variability: MM PE firms (with fund sizes between $500M-$3B) often recruit later than UMM/MF firms. While IB SA recruiting is highly structured and accelerated, MM PE processes can stretch out over weeks or even months, depending on the firm's internal needs and schedules.

  2. Screening and Follow-Up: It's not uncommon for there to be delays between stages in the process. A week without a response after a screening call is not unusual. Many firms take time to coordinate with investment professionals for the next steps, especially if they are balancing multiple candidates or internal priorities.

  3. Communication Strategy: Your approach to following up is spot on. Avoid being overly persistent, as it can come across as pushy. A single follow-up after a week is reasonable. If you still don’t hear back, consider waiting another week before reaching out again.

  4. Next Steps: Since HR mentioned you’ll meet investment professionals through the process, it’s likely that the next stage will involve interviews with team members. These could include case studies, technical questions, or behavioral assessments to evaluate both your skills and fit.

  5. Patience is Key: MM PE recruiting often requires patience. While it’s natural to feel anxious, trust the process and focus on preparing for potential interviews or case studies in the meantime.

If you’re looking for additional preparation resources, WSO offers Private Equity Interview Bootcamps and LBO modeling training that could help you stand out in the next stages. Good luck!
