NYC firm cannabis screening?

I'm starting as a summer analyst at a large NYC-based manager next summer and they'll be reaching out for me to complete a drug screening in the next few months. I know that per NY law it is illegal for NYC employers to test for cannabis (and deny employment based on cannabis use) but I'm unsure of whether that's actually being enforced. The vendor they're using is hireright, if that says anything. If anyone has some insight into this that would be awesome—will probably quit now to be safe but figured I'd just check to see if I'm 100% safe.

Lol, what? You clearly have not read the law. These exceptions do not apply to investment banking analysts... the exceptions are literally

1. police officers

2. construction workers

3. commercial truck drivers

4. positions involving children, medically ill people, etc

5. significant risk to health of the public

6. federally required to be tested. There are no such contracts where the fed is requiring testing for banking kids just because they have some pubfin work with them, you're really reaching there. Maybe if you worked at the CIA or at a federal contractor.

but kk "Principal in PE", go scare these kids. I don't even do weed, but it's legal in NYC and the average finance worker can't be test for it.

Yeah, THC use is pretty common, but everyone I know that partakes stopped for a few months before our tests... Not worth risking it.

That said, I don't think twice about smoking now that I'm employed. I'm just looking forward to the day where the lawmakers can get their heads out of their asses and actually approve the licenses needed for dispensaries to open up in Manhattan...

You're in NYC for the job, right? If you're in the NYC office you are good to go. If you're in a satellite office like Chicago or SF, it will follow local rules and testing may be allowed.

If NYC - they are only screening for hard drugs (heroin, opioids, meth). FYI, if you use unprescribed Adderall or similar, or do coke, those would obviously show up. Anything with a prescription is okay, just have the prescription ready for when they ask.

The law is 100% enforced and no large NYC finance firm is going to do illegal drug testing lol
