This is all just what I’ve been told anecdotally and should be taken as such/don’t see it as certain — you can do on cycle, you may just need to email HHs yourself to do intro calls as it’s not expected that someone already at a MF would look to put themselves through on cycle. A good amount of firms would then see the MF experience as an analyst as very competitive background-wise.

That said, I’ve also heard that some PE firms who don’t have analyst classes themselves (Apollo, H&F, etc) are against taking PE analysts or heavily prefer bankers. I have also heard that some firms have agreements with their HHs that their analysts cannot be recruited out to another client and so you’d be struck out with the list of your firm’s HH. Which can suck if it’s CPI/HSP/etc. Can anyone in PE confirm or deny this?

Confirm for headhunters. If your current firm is on say HSP’s list, HSP will not work with you
