opporuntity for KKR K-Star Summer Intern
I just received an offer from KKR K-Star as a summer intern. The K-Star summer intern program is recently approved, and the job title isn't "summer analyst" but just "summer intern." However, there is an opporunity to return after the internship. I am just wondering what kind of growth opportunity does this kind of position actually offer? Is it possible to potentially transfer to KKR's RE Credit team or a full time opporunity at BREDS? It's a SS platform and is in Dallas so I am just wondering what kind of opporunity may I get from this internship, or I should just go to a regular REPE program(not Mega Fund) or IBD.
Based on the WSO Dataset, securing an internship at KKR, even under the title of "summer intern" rather than "summer analyst," is a significant achievement given KKR's stature in the investment world. The K-Star summer intern program, while new and perhaps less defined than traditional summer analyst roles, presents a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and operations of one of the leading investment firms globally. Here are several points to consider regarding growth opportunities and potential career paths post-internship:
Exposure to KKR's Operations: Interning at KKR, regardless of the specific program, provides invaluable exposure to the firm's investment strategies, operational approach, and culture. This experience can be a strong foundation for a career in finance, offering insights that are beneficial across various sectors within the industry.
Networking Opportunities: KKR's environment will allow you to network with professionals across different teams, including potentially those within the RE Credit team or BREDS (Blackstone Real Estate Debt Strategies). Building relationships during your internship can open doors to opportunities within these groups or elsewhere in the firm, depending on your performance and the firm's needs.
Potential for Full-Time Employment: While the internship does not guarantee a full-time position, performing well and expressing your interest in other areas of the firm, such as the RE Credit team, can position you as a strong candidate for future openings. KKR, like many firms, values internal talent and often looks to its interns as a source for full-time hires.
Consideration of Alternative Paths: Deciding between KKR's K-Star program and other opportunities in REPE (Real Estate Private Equity) or IBD (Investment Banking Division) should be based on your career goals, interest in real estate versus broader finance, and the specific opportunities each path may offer. While KKR offers prestige and a broad platform, a specialized REPE program or IBD role may offer more focused experience in your area of interest.
Location and Platform Considerations: The Dallas location of the SS (Special Situations) platform at KKR may offer unique regional insights and opportunities in the real estate and credit markets. Consider how this geographic focus aligns with your career aspirations and whether it complements your long-term goals.
In conclusion, the KKR K-Star summer intern program can offer significant growth opportunities, especially if you leverage the internship to gain broad exposure, network effectively, and demonstrate your capabilities. Whether this path or another in REPE or IBD is right for you depends on your specific career objectives and the kind of environment in which you believe you'll thrive.

What is summer intern/analyst comp? Have an interview and wondering if it's worth it to pursue
85k, much lower than other front office positions. not sure about comp since Special Servicing isn't acquisition/originations, the bonus might be very little. the office is very toxic as well, there is one COO who "manages" the firm. imagine a firm being run by a compliance person.
I see. How many hours/week did you end up working?
