PE co-invest: progression/exits from for interns/graduates

Q1: Does anyone have any information on what co-investments and PE fund investments could lead to for an intern and exits as a full-time? I suspect the optionality to switch careers further down the road is limited to co-invests and FoFs.

I recently started interning at a PE team of a large pension/insurance company where they co-invest along and also invest in UMM/MF PE funds.

Q2: My intuition is that it’s easier to break into PE or other private markets direct investing role from a household sell-side seat than from a PE co-invest (there’s no deal execution and not a lot of modeling in a co-invest). Can someone confirm or refute this?
