PE Credit Analyst

For background information I'm currently in B4 audit with my CPA license. I'm trying to break into banking and my ultimate goal is to end up as a PE associate somewhere. I currently have a couple opportunities in IB and at a PE shop (+$20bn) as a credit analyst. Coming from outside of banking it's tough for me to gauge how a credit analyst is viewed. The comp and work-life balance seems nice but I'm worried that it may be a step back from a role like IB which could better-position myself to become a PE associate. Could anyone share their experience with/thoughts on credit analyst roles at PE firms?
