PE Firms That Promote Quickly

Where in PE is it common for young people to rise to senior ranks quickly nowadays? I’ve heard stories in the hedge fund and trading world especially pre-2008 of people in their 20s holding senior positions and even some who started their own funds with hundreds of million AUM before even turning 30. Obviously PE is different and times have changed but are there any PE firms that promote young people today?

Brookfield has seen some people move from Associate > Senior Associate after a year (typically 2 years).

Brookfield is too much politics, they pay Analyst / Associates different base

Hedge funds are a lot different - you eat what you kill, you can easily get promoted quickly if you make a lot of money. S&T is similar, even now you see a lot of young MDs because they were excellent at S&T. Most of the guys you are thinking of are star traders.

IB and PE are very old school, you might skip a year here or there but you're really not going to find some 28 year old running their own PE fund (unless it's daddy's money). Your best strategy is to find a firm where you can be a real value add even at a young age.

Can you clarify or provide examples of “being a value add at a young age”? Do you mean finding a way to source deals or fundraise as a junior? Sometimes seems hard to differentiate yourself as a junior PE professional beyond process management when all you’re doing is execution work
