PE Office Set Up?
Curious what everyone’s office layout is like. For example, at my fund (MM PE), associates have small interior (windowless) offices and VPs+ have exterior offices with windows. More senior folks have the better views and obviously corner offices. My friend’s other fund (LMM PE) has associates in a bullpen, VPs in interior offices, and Partners/Principals in exterior offices. I think this is similar to how mega fund offices are set up. What’s your office set up?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, office setups in private equity firms can vary significantly depending on the size and culture of the firm. Here's a breakdown of common setups:
Middle Market (MM) PE Firms:
Lower Middle Market (LMM) PE Firms:
Mega Funds (MF):
The hierarchy and office allocation often reflect the firm's structure and culture, with more seniority typically translating to better office spaces.

Associates share a 12x12 foot closet with no windows, a single large ikea table, 1 ultrawide monitor, & 1 mouse to pass around. Principals+ each have their own floor with floor to ceiling windows and a lap pool.
London MM - all open plan, no offices for anyone
Lmao imagine grinding your ass off for decades to make Partner and you're still sitting next to a virgin A1
Means more £ in your pocket rather than paying management fees for lease costs 😉

MF - ASC and VP in open space. Principal and above have an office.
Funny enough the most Sr. Partners and Principals have roughly the same offices.
I am at Largecap fund and associates have their own offices.

Hello Permira
Been at 2 separate funds (2xMF). 1st had open plan for everyone, down to the CEO. 2nd had offices for Principal and up. All offices same format/size, even for the founders
At a MM fund. Traditionally Partners and Principals got offices, everyone else sat in bullpen. However, our headcount has been growing faster than anticipated and there are no more offices. Last few principals have had to stay in their bullpen seats after getting promoted.
LMM - associates in the bullpen, VP's interior offices, and Principals+ exterior offices
