PE post MBA w/out PE experience?

Hello all - first time posting, long time follower. I am currently a senior working at PwC in their financial services tax practice focusing on private equity. I am currently studying for GMAT and targeting NYU for my MBA. I am hoping to make the switch post MBA to PE but have read a lot about how over challenging it is to obtain a PE offer post MBA without prior PE experience. Can those with insight on this weigh in? As well as any advice.

Extremely unlikely to happen. Go work in IB as an associate in a restructuring or power / infra group for 3 years and then you might get a look for special sits or infra investing. If you’re serious about getting to the buyside, focus on getting to the best bank and group possible first. Don’t be one of those MBAs who wastes time trying to chase PE without the required experience and misses banking recruiting as a result.
