As always, it depends on what you want to do. Did you enjoy your time in REPE? Have they talked to you about full-time offers?
One thing I would consider is that REPE is fairly specialized, whereas the consulting would give you exposure to a wider range of skills. What do you want to do down the road? MBA admissions may be another thing to consider since consulting is often viewed favorably by adcoms.
Thanks for the help. I really don't know what I want to do. I LOVED the Real Estate Private Equity gig. I looked forward to going in everyday. They have talked to me about full time offers, nothing set in stone.
You say REPE is specialized... is it so specialized that I couldn't break into another industry? Would there be opportunities for me to move into a bigger fund or a different industry of PE?
Yes, it is that specialized that it might ultimately prevent you from switching industries. You could move to a bigger firm, but a different industry focus within PE would be very unlikely.
I'm open for anything, I just want to pick the path that gives me the most optionality with moving between different industries of valuation down the line.
If this is truly what you want, then something like management consulting will allow much more "transferability" - this might be important, so keep it in mind
As far as "transferability" goes, would you recommend I look at getting into IB for a few years? The IB firms haven't come through my campus yet, but will be in the coming weeks. Would I realistically have a shot at getting FT in IB due to my experience in PE?
