PE Recruiting Timeline

Curious to hear how does pe recruiting cycle work for lateral hires. Recently lateralled from another industry so had to take a year back in terms of experience. Will be joining the bank but would stay in the same year as the 2021 Would I just recruit on the 2023 cycle?
