potential exits as a sourcing analyst from a GE shop?

2 questions.

  1. what are exit opps for a sourcing analyst at a GE shop like PSG, Battery, or Insight...?
  2. can sourcing analysts eventually work their way up to becoming an associate?
  3. if i sign a sourcing role for my junior year summer internship, will it negatively impact me cuz I was late to banking recruitment?

  1. LinkedIn filter past company for these firms for exits. Paths are typically other VC/growth firms
  2. Yes. Look at LinkedIn dawg
  3. Are you asking about going to banking after junior year sourcing focused summer internship? Most would say you should work on getting a return offer and take it…but if you wanted to do banking it’s possible but most of the seats are filled from interns

  1. thanks so much for that info
  2. thanks so much, ill definitely look harder, mainly because I see and have heard on WSO that sourcing analysts at GE firms don't get that much attention in a sense that even though they get better at sales, market research, and investment memos, they get stuck in a 2/3 year analyst program and may never be promoted... im not sure if thats true but thats what ive gathered from other wso posts...
  3. yeah if i were to do a sourcing summer internship at a GE firm like PSG my junior year... is that even worth it... because if i go back full time im scared that my exit opportunities would be garbage since I do not get that much experience on the modeling side of things... so would I return back to them full time or just recruit again for banking for a SA by pushing back my cycle or FT? What are your thoughts?

Looking at your post history, you're overthinking this, so take a deep breath. These are good buyside seats...and p sure you don't even have it locked down yet, so your #1 goal should be to land the internship.

On exit opps - KKR growth would hire a (good) ex-PSG analyst, KKR industrials probably wouldn't. Def overthinking the restrictions sourcing roles put on you.

I actually got a sourcing-focused analyst offer (at arguably a worse firm than the types you're talking about) and turned it down, which frankly came back to bite me as I was trying to get into growth equity several years later from a mid-tier banking gig.
