Private Debt Interview Question

I am currently interviewing with a Private Debt fund and they asked me to prepare an investment pitch of my choosing with an investment memo in advance of the presentation. Making an investment memo is not much of an issue, but the issue I’m having is what Company to choose.

Would the correct avenue be to pick a public company and make up some sort of debt transaction and build an investment memo based on publicly available information? Or should I make up/use a private company (obviously change name and any other material info.) that was passed on in my current role I have financials for? I want to make sure I am not breaking any rules in the interviewing space so just wanted some advice at the correct way to do this, or if both options work as well.

It is only a 30 minute presentation so I don’t think I have to go into much detail (risks/mitigants, company overview, industry overview, etc.) but I was also thinking of building a downside case since it is a credit role.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
