I’ve been trying to get some time with recruiters, but they keep telling me they have no roles and will ping me if there are roles. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong that’s preventing me from getting on a call with them.. what are some common reasons?

If are being to "pushy" or you sound to "desperate" they'll simply ignore you. I would go with a different approach. Now I don't know for sure how the conversation goes between you and them so might be something different. Will be worth giving more details. What roles are you interested in? How many times have you emailed/called the same recruiter to ask if they have any vacancies?
