Anybody in renewables development? What type of projects have you gotten to work on (Solar/ wind/ gas/ batteries/ etc)? Since the space is still relatively new, is there a general background you see among colleagues? MBA? CFA? Industry experience? Or just more pure lending backgrounds?
The firm I work at develops solar projects and also buys out existing projects. Most of the senior people at the firm ae CPAs. I think this is because the CFO used to work at PwC and when he came over to our firm, he took a lot of his accounting buddies with him. The head of Capital Markets at our firm has a Wharton MBA. The Manager of the Acquisitions team has a Harvard MBA. A lot of the associates and analysts just have short banking backgrounds or previous experience in the Renewables industry in Business Development or Project Finance. Our general counsel went to Harvard Law School and has a CFA (He's a hardo).
Something I'm surprised I haven't really seen is people with strong real estate backgrounds. Developing projects or buying other projects involves a lot of diligence work about the land we're buying and building on. But for the most part, everyone has really strong accounting backgrounds.
