Seeking advice - selecting an industry specialty
Hi guys:
First of all, just want to say thank you for the amazing amount of resources on this site! I'm a career switcher who recently switched into PE, and I hope to seek your advice on which industry to specialize in to make the best preparation for my next move.
The current fund I'm at is active, but is mostly engaged with very safe, plain-vanilla transactions (pay highish valuation, doesn't get into restructuring / heavy operational turn around work, etc.). I hope to transition into a more involved / complex style of PE investing down the line. Given that my current fund's approach is more passive / plain vanilla, are there better industries for me to specialize in if I want to "move up" the complexity chain? How should I think about this please?
Thanks!
Would love to sell you a few of the companies in our portfolio if you guys are into paying “highish valuations”.
Guess I don’t understand your industry predicament? Are you looking into specializing in a type of transaction (LBO, distressed, growth) or a sector (tech, energy, etc)?
Looking for advice on choosing a sector (tech, consumer, etc), where it's possible to go from doing plain vanilla deals to more complex deals in the future
