Software LBO Models for Practice
Incoming associate at a tech-focused buyout firm. Have lots of free time now, so was hoping to get my hands on some software models to make sure I'm solid on the technical front before I start in a couple months.
Does anyone have access to software / tech LBO models? Would be willing to pay for a package of models/resources if they exist somewhere. Lmk and I'll DM you!
How much you willing to pay?
Unbelievable. A VP in one of the world's most lucrative professions insinuating an intent to profiteer off an earnest up-and-comer looking to make a splash by putting in extra work.
In the true spirit of mentoring those more junior in the community, perhaps it would be laudable to suggest that you are able to offer something to OP for free, because you recognize the work they are putting in to their own development.
We should be so fortunate that there are professionals like OP who are looking to better themselves in advance of their Associate stints, and furthermore so lucky that a place like WSO allows that to happen.
OP, please de-anonymize, or make a burner account to post that you agree to the below proposition, and I will take the time to anonymize a CIM that I have for a flagship tech LBO that covers most software LBO modeling "tricks and traps". The CIM is from a (now old) investment from one of the big three tech focused PE players. It might be about a week before I can get to it in full but I will send it to you and from there, please pay it forward by distributing to those who come to this thread and ask for it.
In addition, please take a look at David Skok's https://yupengwu.files.wordpress.com/2019/02/saas-metrics-2.0-a-guide-t…</a">SaaS Metrics primer. You can also find this in PPT/PDF version in the attachments section of his LinkedIn page. This will acclimate you to non-GAAP software accounting practices, many of which are essential to software investment analysis. If you are at a tech-focused firm, you will certainly perform many of these analyses. I have also written a post previously on VC interviewing questions and many of the same principles apply; you can find that https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/what-to-expect-at-vc-interview</a">here.
Best of luck in your upcoming role.
Thank you! This might be one of the nicest comments I've ever read on WSO. Feel free to PM me the CIM whenever you have the chance to anonymize it, and I'll make sure to pass on the generosity. Cheers!
EDIT: Please stop replying to this comment and DMing me. @mmpewso has ghosted me, and I have yet to receive the CIM. If I ever do hear back, I won’t be able to reply to 160 DMs and will find another way, so there’s no point in continuously DMing me anyways.
OP Here: Love to see the interest in this haha. Would appreciate though if people could stop spamming my DMs. @mmpewso said he needs about a week to work on anonymizing the CIM and preparing it. Once he sends it my way I'll figure out some way to make it accessible to everyone without needing to send out 80 DMs lol.
Sorry guys - still waiting on @mmpewso to send over the CIM.
UPDATE: Hey guys so @mmpewso has just totally ghosted me lmao. Not sure what to do here, but if anyone knows of any other resources and actually checks their wso DMs, that would be great haha
