Special Sits - Expected returns

I’ll preface by saying I know nil poi about special sits.

In PE decent to good returns sit at 2-4X MOIC.

In special sits, I understand each case is typically a real under-performer or distressed. What MOIC is considered a win in the eyes of special sits? If you’re coming in to a RescueCo, you must be coming in at a significant discount. To what extent does rescuing the company alone provide half decent returns… or is it typically rescue and then expect several years of solid growth?

Trying to build up idea of how much restructuring/ real resurrection special sits actually is, or is it a quick 1-2yrs restructure and then lots of growth like the latter years of a typical buyout?
