Startup Fund or Growth Equity Firm
Wanted to hear general thoughts on the matter between joining a startup investment firm, or joining a standard growth equity firm.
Recognize that a role with a startup fund will require more hours, effort, and a lack of junior-level guidance, but may come with higher pay, more influence on firm decisions, etc.
On the other hand, a role at a growth equity firm would offer more formal training and experience, less downside risk of 0 returns, and a better way to stay connected.
What are the backgrounds of the partners at the startup fund vs what is the track record of the growth fund? Is this more hypothetical or do you have offers?
Hypothetical
In early processes for growth equity, but a friend of mine is leaving his VP role to start his own fund.
Also, brings up the question of execution / fundraising risk.
