Tell me the truth about VC

Hey all, I’ve been opening up my search from just PE to including VC. I’ve heard many good things lifestyle wise because of the tech influence in VC but no one has told me the bad yet. How’s the comp, career track, day-to-day as a junior, etc.

I just want to know everything before making a push toward one or the other. Ideally I’m focused on smaller firms in the Rocky’s but would like to get an idea of the industry as a whole.

Speaking about pure early-stage VC (not growth):

- Comp much lower than PE/GE, except maybe for the 1-2 top names like Sequoia

- Career track not a given - this is not as linear path where you can just climb the ranks. Most of the seniors have usually been successful entrepreneurs before rather than coming from a traditional IB/PE background

- Day-to-day is nearly entirely focused on sourcing
